In January 1974, Vilis (Bill) Michaels of Newhay Fisheries, published a small booklet entitled "First steps in carp farming" Over 5,000 copies were printed and these have all been sold. Reprinted in 1987 and available at £5 per copy please go to the contact us page to order your copy.
In June, 1987 Newhay Fisheries was bought by Sandra and Colin Forsyth and renamed Newhay Carp Farm.
Newhay Carp Farm has come a long way since its formation when Bill Michaels extended his interest in the rearing of cold-water fishes from his back garden to the present site now under the ownership of Colin and Sandra Forsyth which also includes specially created lakes for anglers. Newhay Carp Farm has developed new techniques over the years to induce spawning and as a result of this work is now the foremost producer of and finglerlings in Yorkshire.
SPECIMEN LAKE established in 1993, has shown a steady growth rate in the original fish that were stocked. The grass carp, introduced in 1994, has provided us with what we understand to be the biggest of its species in Yorkshire! We now have a common, mirror and a grass carp all over 30lbs! Advance booking is essential as there are only 8 pegs and we are kept busy, especially at weekends! Book early to avoid disappointment! 3 rods are allowed and prices are £12 per day; £18 for 24 hours and £30 for 48 hours. Longer sessions are negotiable, with a weekly booking costing only £90.00.
Several anglers have captured our resident 'Ghost' on camera, last weighed in at 21lb 02oz, to qualify for a free day's fishing and complimentary 'Ghostbuster' baseball cap! Are you up to the challenge?.
DAY TICKET LAKE is now well established and has become increasingly popular to many anglers. The lake is extensively stocked with all species of coarse fish, including superb barbel and plenty of large carp to 20lbs. Night fishing is possible, but strictly by prior arrangement only. A day ticket costs just £5.00 for 1 rod, with any extra rods (max 3) at £2.00 each.
