Fatcatz Finecarp

Jason Lathams passion for big fish stems back more than twenty years, often travelling from one end of the UK to the other in pursuit of specimen Carp, Pike and Catfish. His UK pb for these species are – Carp 31.08, Cat 32.08 and Pike 35.08. Spanish Pb's are Carp 45.12 and Cat 212Lb. He wanted to explore Spain’s river Ebro nine years ago for its monster Catfish but didn’t have the chance at that time. Jason has made up for that now having lived in Mequinenza with his girlfriend Amanda for the past four years, so hopefully you can imagine the vast amount of knowledge of the surrounding area that he has gathered leaving no stone unturned. Catching Catfish from the Segre and the Ebro whilst clonking, spinning, buoy fishing, and pellet fishing. This gives you piece of mind knowing your guide is capable of fishing for Catfish using different styles when needed in different river conditions.

Amanda, Jason’s girlfriend helps him with the business side of things, so bookings and emails all run smoothly. When they do go fishing together Amanda always catches the biggest fish of the day. She has landed Cats to 162Lb and Carp to 33.08.

Jason is a perfectionist in what he does, religiously checking knots and hook points for their durability as there is no room for tackle failure on his trips. He takes pride in his fish handling skills and always gives the fish respect, so they can fight another day. He is totally intense on you catching your dream fish and will work to another level to enable you to achieve this.  Catfishing is a team effort, when everyone mucks in and helps each other it enhances the experience and ups the catch rate. Jason takes pride in his photography and is always looking for that special snap for his clients. In addition Jason is also a consultant for both Freespirit and Mainline baits.

CATFISH TRIPS

Your fishing will start at 6.00 am (depending on the time of year) we break at 1.00 for lunch and a shower (this is often the hottest part of the day and catches are rare) It is far better to recharge the batteries for the evening session, which is 6.00pm to midnight.

Catfish of Ebro size are immense fighters and I doubt you will have experienced a fight quite like it. It is here where a guide comes into his own by talking you through the battle, often over and under rods to avoid tangles which may resort in a lost fish. I’m not a fan of leaving fish on stringers for long periods of time, so once they have been landed they are retained for a minimal amount of time, whilst we prepare the weighing equipment. Once weighed and the photos taken the Catfish is held upright in the margins until it gathers strength and swims off no worse for wear……..Job Done.
